Acting Prime Minister, Muhammad Muftah, participated in the launch event of the Cotton Industries Promotion Program, which is implemented by the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprise Development, and the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit in the capital secretariat.
At the event, the Acting Prime Minister considered the launch of the program an important step to review the productive Yemeni self, which did not know unemployment, especially in the countryside, where every family member had a role and a producer... pointing to the destruction that the value system, including productivity, has been subjected to in recent decades in favor of the destructive consumer culture.
He expressed support and appreciation for this initiative, which is in line with the productive history of Yemen, which was known for producing and exporting the best clothing throughout history. It was mentioned in this regard that the Messenger, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, recommended that he be shrouded in two Yemeni Sahuli garments as a sign of this industry and the people who produced them.
The scholar Muftah explained that our people have transformed from a productive, self-reliant people to a consumer of everything, stressing that this consumer culture requires everyone to rebuild the value system and restore the productive spirit of the family with all its members, society, and the state as a whole to be a productive state.
He stated that the state is currently working to review, evaluate and reform the institutional legislative system to develop work mechanisms, including creating a stimulating and encouraging environment for the production process at all levels and in various sectors in a way that serves the national economy. Pointing out that there is no stable and prosperous economic future for the country unless we advance the economy of the individual, family and society.
The Acting Prime Minister said, "We must focus on providing small laboratories as we move to localize this industry to ensure its development and prosperity, and we must focus on rebuilding the production culture in order to produce from our country's bounties, benefit and export."
He added, "Capitalists should not be satisfied with the easy profit that comes to them from imports, but rather focus on having a mark in national production and manufacturing and benefiting from the direction of the September 21 Revolution in localizing industries and making Yemen an industrial base for self-sufficiency and export, which requires sharpening resolve and serious collective action to achieve this goal."
He thanked those who prepared this program and all the workers, both male and female, in various work and production sites, who are greatly appreciated by the Leader of the Revolution and all the leadership in the various aspects of the state.
The scholar Muftah indicated that the government will work to facilitate, improve and develop this aspect through support, assistance and promotion... directing the official media to make all advertisements for the national product free of charge and to create paragraphs to increase the value of these products.
He stressed the leadership of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Investment to help producers improve the quality of their products through various means, and the program supervisors pay great attention to qualification and training.
At the event attended by the Secretary-General of the Presidency, Hassan Sharaf al-Din, the Acting Minister of Industry, Economy and Investment, Sam Al-Bashiri, and the Deputy Minister of Information, Dr. Omar Al-Bukhaiti, the Secretary of the Capital, Dr. Hammoud Abbad, announced the support of the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprise Development in the amount of 600 million riyals provided as soft loans to families working in the field of small and micro enterprises.
He explained that the Municipality of the Capital will work to establish centers for productive families to market their products and will work urgently to establish one of the centers during the next few months, as well as taking decisions derived from the directives of the revolutionary leadership and the government, most notably not granting any permit to establish any mall in the city except after agreeing with the mall owner to allocate a corner for marketing family products.
Abbad stated that the Municipality of the Capital will be an active partner, believing in the importance of small and smaller projects to move towards a Yemeni economy that enhances the state of production and reduces the import bill.
He explained that the capital secretariat is the largest population center and should be the largest container for industries, production and the national economy that is built on economic empowerment projects and enhances the state of the general economy.
The Mayor of the Capital pointed out that cotton industry projects, which represent one of the features of national economic activity, do not proceed within a complete circle, given that the fabric and materials of the product that families manufacture are purchased from abroad, which requires the completion of the vision for manufacturing and producing cotton products.
He urged the rest of the authorities to do their duty to achieve the desired ambition, especially after the General Authority for Small and Micro Enterprise Development and the financiers did their duty... stressing that the Capital Municipality will do everything in its power to finance projects related to this industry and will participate effectively in the field of the value chain by creating the marketing process.
The Mayor of the Capital noted that the idea cannot be completed unless marketing is completed, in which the responsibility of all relevant parties is highlighted.
For his part, the head of the Public Authority for Small and Micro Enterprise Development, Ahmed Al-Kabsi, confirmed that the Authority is launching today a new path of self-sufficiency within the economic front that affects every citizen, and is considered an important front that everyone should support in order to combine and integrate efforts from the highest leadership pyramid to the lowest level.
He pointed out that the Authority seeks to achieve self-sufficiency and localize industries, which are no longer just ambitions, but have become a tangible reality, pointing out that economic empowerment without integrating the efforts of all partners will not achieve the desired effect.
Al-Kabsi stressed that the Authority, with the combined efforts of all its partners, will transform, under the umbrella of the National Committee for Economic Empowerment, every home into a production line and every neighborhood into a factory, considering economic empowerment a collective responsibility.
He praised the efforts of the Executive Unit to finance agricultural and fishery projects, the Mayor of the Capital, all the ministers and members of the National Committee for Economic Empowerment and the General Authority for Zakat... hoping that there will be a qualitative shift in the process of vocational and technical training that will ultimately contribute to achieving all the desired goals.
The event, which was attended by a number of undersecretaries and the head of the Social Affairs Committee in the capital’s municipality, Hamoud Al-Naqeeb, included a review of the study on the cotton industries promotion program and sections that focused on the importance of community awareness of economic empowerment and self-sufficiency projects.
After that, the Acting Prime Minister and his entourage viewed an exhibition of Yemeni-made cotton products, which were produced with high quality and specifications competing with imported products, where six local trade names presented a number of high-quality cotton products.
At the conclusion of the event, the male and female participants in the Cotton Industries Promotion Program were honored.
