A coordination meeting was held today in the secretariat of the capital, Sana’a, that included a number of leaders and entities related to the agricultural sector, to discuss mechanisms for rehabilitating orchards and plots and enhancing the role of cooperative societies in this vital field.

The meeting witnessed the presence of the Undersecretary of the Capital Secretariat for Agricultural Affairs, Mr. Muhammad Saree, and the Director General of the Endowments Office in the Secretariat, Mr. Walid Al-Alawi, along with the representative of the Supreme Agricultural and Fisheries Committee, Mr. Muhammad Al-Hadi, and the Director of the Tahrir and Old Sanaa Multi-Purpose Societies, Professor Moaz Al-Mahdi and Professor Rizq Al-Gharara, in addition to the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation in the Agricultural Unit, Dr. Muhammad Mansour.

The attendees discussed the importance of rehabilitating orchards and plots as sustainable agricultural resources that contribute to improving the urban environment and enhancing food security, stressing the need for concerted official and community efforts to achieve tangible results.

The meeting concluded by agreeing on a number of practical measures, the most prominent of which was assigning cooperative societies to go out in the field to prepare integrated studies on the targeted sites and their needs, in preparation for submitting them to the competent authorities.

It was also agreed to support these projects through funding that will be provided by the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit in the capital secretariat, which will contribute to the implementation of rehabilitation and development programs according to well-studied plans.

The participants stressed that this step represents an important start towards strengthening the partnership between official bodies and cooperative societies, which will reflect positively on the development of the agricultural sector in the capital secretariat and the preservation of the city’s traditional agricultural heritage.
