Today, the Mayor of the Capital, Dr. Hammoud Abbad, and a development team, reviewed the experiences of community initiatives and pioneering agricultural projects in Hodeidah Governorate, and ways to benefit from them in enhancing development work in the municipality.
The Secretariat team, which included Chairman of the Social Affairs Committee Hammoud Al-Naqeeb, Undersecretaries of the Financial Sector Mazen Noman, Agricultural Affairs Mohamed Saree, Assistant Undersecretary Dr. Abdel-Wahab Sharaf, Directors of the Social Affairs Office Nasser Al-Kahili, and the Agricultural and Fisheries Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit Abdullah Sharaf and his deputy Samir Hamza, learned about the initiatives’ experiences in the field of irrigation and maintenance of water drainage channels, as well as the diversionary barrier in Wadi More.
The visitors, accompanied by the Director of Planning at the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, Amer Al-Hatemi, and the Chief of Value Chain Officers, Adnan Khurim, heard from the Chairman of the Tihama Development Authority, Ali Hazza, and the Secretary-General of the Agricultural Union, Muhammad Al-Qahum, to an explanation about the nature of the projects implemented in partnership with the Al-Zahra Cooperative Society, and the Authority’s role in reclaiming lands and providing associations with agricultural expertise and guidance.
The visit included the diversionary barrier, which covers an area of approximately 25,000 hectares through its northern canals, 19 km long, and the southern, 24 km long, in addition to reviewing the initiative to maintain the seven-kilometre-long “Al-Diraniyah” canal, which is implemented by the Al-Zahra Association with a community contribution to nourish about eight thousand acres of agricultural land.
During the visit, the Mayor of the Capital stressed that the development transformations taking place in Hodeidah, “Yemen’s breadbasket,” embody the true horizon for achieving independence, sovereignty, and reaching self-sufficiency.
He explained that the visit comes in implementation of the directives of the leader of the revolution, Mr. Abdul Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and the directives of the President of the Supreme Political Council, to activate developmental and cooperative paths... stressing the keenness to transfer the successful experiences and pioneering models of cooperative societies in Hodeidah and apply them in the capital’s secretariat.
Abbad praised the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture, community initiatives, and cooperative societies in bringing about a tangible agricultural renaissance to confront current challenges and achieve self-sufficiency.
The head of the Al-Zahra Association, Qazi Hazza, participated in the visit.
